Komera centre is a Social and Religious project that aims to give to children with handicap the possibility to live a part of the week in Komera and to participate in the programs offered there. Children with hearing impairment follow the normal primary education, embedded in the  specific program for their handicap. Participation in the unique curricula of Komera, empowers these children, so that they become more independent / self-reliant and hence happier. The same program is applied for children with various handicap living in their families. This is called  Home visit program.
Komera means “be strong”. It aims at getting children
· with a communicative disorder
· with a mental disability
· with a hearing impairment
· who are traumatized
Out of their isolation.
They, and also their parents/family, are made aware of their rights as human beings. One of the sources of inspiration of the program is the natural surroundings of the child at home. For that reason, the environment and activities at Komera have to resemble as much as possible those at home. The children stay every week for 4 days at Komera; during the (long) weekend they are at home, in order to allow parent to child interaction.
The children are helped by a special method called Total Communication. The method is unique. It makes use of all sorts of ways of communication: speech, by body and mimic, signs and sign language and above all a variety of visualization techniques.
Komera wants to develop itself as an expertise centre for other projects that work with children having the same types of disabilities.
According to the needs of the child and its family situation, the participants follow one or more of the programs and its related activities within various areas, offered in Komera Centre.
